Austar is using Avaya Communication Manager 2.2 running on an Avaya S8700 Media Server and Avaya Converged Communications Server that supports their customer service center with 700 of their staff. Today, they are using all digital telephone sets.

When Austar launched its digital television services in March,2004, they offered subscribers the option to choose the movies they want to watch via telephone. To make this possible, they implemented one of the first solutions that involves Avaya Communication Manager-Session Initiated Protocol (SIP) -Third-Party systems integration. Their Nuance Speech Recognition server is integrated with Avaya Communication Manager via SIP which allowed them to integrate their voice ordering system with their back office customer relationship billing engines and their conditional access system on the satellite to provide the movie to the customer once they placed the order.

Austar has a Cisco data infrastructure and their services are provided by the local BusinessPartner Touchbase.
